Important SEO for your Website.

My name is David Casey and welcome to my blog!

I run Step Online and my first post is going to touch on how to get the most from your website. I have compiled a list below of things that you need to consider when wanting to rank higher and they are;

  • Understand your market – just because Google and Bing are telling you that a particular search term gets x amount of traffic, it doesn’t always follow that it does!
  • Make sure your website has the right keywords in! Some keywords are more important than others and therefore more difficult to achieve a decent position on, but think out of the box and try and guess what visitors in the market for your product or service may be typing in. For example my partner runs a toddlers music group, but that is far too generic, so she may wish to consider toddlers music group York, or Under 5′s activities or even kids music group – be creative and yes more creative then I have just been!
  • Write a blog, if you are passionate about what you do then write a blog, you will find more people who share your niche will want to read it.
  • One size does not fit all! Most people know that link building is essential to support any website, but don’t just rely on 1 method like directories. Use everything at your disposal which include Link baiting, Blogging, getting links on awards pages, responding on forums, article submissions, social media etc etc!
  • If someone guarantees you a position on Google’s first page then walk away unless of course it is Google, in which case ignore that piece of advice completely!
  • Set a strategy to update your blog or website daily, but make sure it’s interesting. We all have friends on Facebook, Twitter etc that write the most insane amount of drivel on a daily basis, “Got up, made a cup of tea, watched Jeremy Kyle – what an idiot!!” Not the most inspiring message is it!!
  • If you have stats about your site, then look at them, so who’s visiting you and how long they stayed on your website – not very long if you are writing rubbish!
  • Give things away, whether it is a piece of advice or a goldfish – well maybe not a goldfish! Just give people a reason to return!
  • Allocate 10 minutes – 1 hour a day to work on your site as long term the results will be amazing!

As I am bordering on overdoing it, I will leave this here and thank you for reading this!!

For more information on SEO and Web Design then we will be posting again very soon.
